Due to the required cooling of the CH2 facility to ensure an internal temperature of 25oC is not exceeded, a solar PV system was warranted investigation as a solution to reduce electricity usage and demand costs. As a result, Australand undertook detailed investigations of a solar PV solution for the CH2 facility. The drivers were predominantly to reduce electricity usage and demand costs and provide a hedge on future electricity price increases.
I am pleased that North Sydney Council have continued to invest every year in Sustainability projects such as Solar PV systems at many Council sites. This will reduce our environmental footprint and create a better environment for our future generation.
Menai High School took the opportunity to demonstrate commitment to teaching sustainability principles by ensuring that we practice them in our day to day operations. Our 25th anniversary presented a perfect opportunity to unite all stakeholders in a commitment to creating a daylight energy self sufficient school which could not only minimise pollution but also release funds currently used to pay the electricity bill into better teaching and learning opportunities for future generations of learners.

With the works being undertaken on a fully occupied public use building, strict maintenance of the construction safety plan and associated traffic management controls was critical in the completion of the works. At all times Solgen Energy as Principal Contractor maintained the documented safety measures and demonstrated the level of skill expertise required to complete works of this nature, and achieve a tight program whilst surrounded by the general public.
On site Solgen Energy’s staff conducted themselves impeccably and demonstrated a high level of professionalism. They respected the heritage nature of the building’s fabric and were consultative and cooperative every step of the way. This is an installation of exceptional quality, both of its components and its workmanship. It is likely to outperform its rivals in both output and longevity.

Council has been keen to demonstrate strong leadership in responding to climate change and has been installing solar systems, both hot-water and photovoltaic panels for some years. This has culminated in the completion of this 36 kilowatt PV system at our Works Depot which now gives us 48kW installed on Council sites – a great example for our community and local government around Australia.
