Solgen Energy has proudly renewed their sponsorship of Sunswift’s eVe project, which will become the first ever road legal solar car in Australia.

Solgen Energy has a long standing history of recruiting some of the best and brightest solar engineers, and the UNSW student initiative, Sunswift, has been supported by Solgen Energy since 2014.

With a common goal of minimising the impact of mankind’s environmental footprint, the relationship between the two parties was a natural step allowing Solgen Energy’s further contribution to the renewable energy movement in the wider community.

The new generation of solar innovators and entrepreneurs has received considerable support through both sponsorships and crowdfunding, like their Pozible campaign that raised $36000, to create eVe the solar sports car that is set to become Australia’s first ever road legal solar car.

Sunswift’s eVe’s sleek design is composed of light weight carbon fibre, Audi headlights and 800W of SunPower high efficiency monocrystalline cells. It can boast speeds of 140km/h and is a notable edition to the World Solar Challenge, having competed every year. eVe has also achieved recognition worldwide in the renewable energy sector following July 2014, when the prototype broke the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) World record for fastest electric vehicle over 500km on a single charge.

As one of their financial sponsors, Solgen Energy’s financial contributions will go directly into helping Sunswift get one step closer to reaching their goals of a sustainable future. The key upgrades needed to make it comply with FIA Australian standards include the installation of headlights, fog lights, windshield wipers and improved ergonomically designed seats.

Our commercial sales executive, Ivor Kades, had the pleasure of meeting the team and taking eVe for a test drive.

“It was a great opportunity to meet the Sunswift team, and the brilliant minds behind the initative. UNSW has a great track record of producing the best in class engineers, and today I had the unique opportunity to test drive the fruits of their labour; the eVe sports car.”

– Ivor Kades, Commercial Sales Manager

By promoting the commercial viability of solar energy, Sunswift aims to make a statement to the world that solar cars actually can travel fast and be the preferred alternative to fossil fuelled vehicles.
