Mater Dei Camden unveils its solar investment

Today Mater Dei unveiled the recently installed 151kW solar power installation at an official opening ceremony held at the school’s facility in Camden. Solgen Energy was privileged to be invited along to attend and be part of the opening proceedings.

Among those who attended the event was John Adam, Chair of the Mater Dei Board, Tony Fitzgerald, Principal of Mater Dei and the Federal Member for Macarthur, The Hon. Russell Matheson MP.

As an organisation, Mater Dei provides early intervention therapy services to infants, children and young adults with intellectual disabilities and developmental delays. These services facilitate the skills, abilities and instills confidence in their students to access their local communities in an inclusive manner.

Federal Member for Macarthur, The Hon. Russell Matheson MP began the proceedings by sharing his delight with the completion of the solar power project.

He stated, “…solar panels installed by Solgen Energy will provide enough power to maintain a pool temperature of up to 30 degrees whilst cutting electricity costs for the school and reducing the environmental impact of heating the hydrotherapy facility. This will benefit generations of students and help the school’s bottom line to the tune of $40,000/yr, which is the equivalent of having the funds to pay for an extra teacher 2 days per week.”

The 599 solar panels were installed by Solgen Energy after government funding was provided to Mater Dei to assist with the high energy consumption associated mainly with their swimming pool facilities.

A plaque was unveiled outside of the school’s swimming pool facility to showcase the official opening of the Sustainable Heating for Special Needs Pool Project.

The solar power system is expected to generate approximately 196.5 Megawatt hours per annum, and save up to 210.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
