The Solgen Energy group was selected to design, procure and install an Industrial Solar System at North Sydney Council Depot facilities located in Cammeray in Northern Sydney. The Industrial Solar Power System installed on the roof the depot has a solar system peak capacity of 23.97kWp.

North Sydney Council has a leading environment strategy to reduce its carbon emissions through a range of green initiatives. Solgen Energy partnered with North Sydney Council to develop and install a tailored solution to optimise the power output and significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

This Depot Solar Power System Project presented a number of unique challenges, for which Solgen Energy was able to develop an innovative design and construction methodology. Some of the key challenges have been:

  • Limited useable roof space available for the installation of the solar panel array while maintaining the skylights solar access that provide natural light throughout the day
  • Installation of roof mounted solar panels that maintained the architectural requirements
  • Installing in multiple roof sections with varying roof pitches required numerous engineering solutions
  • Power delivery through an interlocked three phase system to safely deliver the power to the Distribution Network Service Provider.


The Solgen Energy Engineers are Clean Energy Council (CEC) Accredited and ensure that the design is optimised to ensure that the solar power system produces the maximum amount of power from the sun.

The Solgen Project Management team, lead by the operations manager, worked closely with our clients to ensure that the project met their needs and was successfully delivered on schedule. Solgen Energy also managed all the required approvals required by the Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP).

The components chosen for this Industrial Solar System Project were key to its successful implementation. High efficiency products from leading manufacturers were selected to provide the hardware solution. The components used include:

  • Compact 235W polycrystalline photovoltaic modules made by Schott in Germany
  • Industrial rated sunny mini central inverters made in Germany by SMA
  • Solar panel array mounting using a flush mounted frame network while ensuring electrical isolation from the roof sections.


The installation of the solar system at the depot building is one example of North Sydney Council’s commitment to protect the environment.

  • It saves over 41 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually
  • This Depot Solar System generates 38.4MWh/yr of renewable electricity per year
  • The installation of solar demonstrates positive action on climate change to the community
