In July 2010 Campbelltown City Council issued a request for tender for the supply, design, installation and connection of photovoltaic systems at various sites within the Campbelltown Region.
Through the installation of solar power, Campbelltown City Council aims to reduce its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, while raising awareness of renewable energy technologies to the wider community.
After a competitive tender process the Council awarded Solgen Energy the Works Depot site, located in Minto.

Critical to the design process was the consideration of site, climate and program constraints.
A thorough system design summarizing work methodologies was developed to most effectively utilise the existing roof structures and maximise electricity output of the system.
Key to this design process was designing the array around the existing sky lights on the roof of the depot to ensure light was not obstructed by the array.
The age of the premises and electrical layout also posed an additional challenge because the existing main switch board couldn’t facilitate the solar power system.
From start to finish, Solgen Energy managed the installation of a 9.9kW system on the Workshop North Roof. This included system design, relevant permits, procurement, site safety analysis, installation and commissioning and ongoing support.
The system was designed with two aspects in mind: utilising the best north facing roof space, and designing the solar power array in a way to avoid conflict with the skylights as well as other roof obstructions
The 9.9kW system utilised 45 Schott Poly 220W solar modules, which are ideally suited to Australia’s harsh climate and have been proven to outlast competitors in terms of durability and efficiency.
This system was coupled with a high quality, German engineered SMA SMC 10000TL inverter.
The system demonstrates Campbelltown City Council’s commitment to climate change action, while simultaneously providing it with financial and environmental rewards.
The system will produce more than 16 megawatts of electricity per annum, enough to supply 25% of the Depot’s annual electricity demand.
