The owners of Kilburney Farm were looking for ways to improve their bottom line, while simultaneously improving their sustainability practices. After identifying solar power as a great investment for the business to reduce day-to-day operational costs, Solgen Energy Group designed and installed a 100kW solar power system that will reduce at least 40 per cent of the business’s yearly energy costs.
The custom solar solution was designed to produce a highly efficient energy generation system that required minimal maintenance. We designed a flush mounted array on the pitched roof of the main farm shed which will allow the solar panels to self-clean.
The farm is continuously operational which meant the entire installation had to take place between production cycles. Start to finish, this allowed 10 business days to install the system
|Energy produced:||147 MWh per year|
|Solar panel:||Trina Solar 260W|
|No. of panels:||384|
|CO2 savings:||1102 tonnes per year|
|No. of inverters:||4|
Reinforcement works were carried out as part of the install process to ensure that the building was kept structurally sound. The inverters were positioned close by in their own small building for practical and operational reasons.
A custom inverter station was built adjacent to the farm shed in an external cooling room. Minimal distance between the array and inverter station was considered to avoid cable loss.
“This system will save the business at least 40 per cent of its annual electricity bill. Local businesses are starting to become aware of the competitive edge that a solar system offers and how it has a dramatic impact on
energy costs. The technology is at a really exciting time and with advances in solar panels and batteries, it has never been a better time to have solar energy supporting businesses.”
